# Deployment Runner is now open source

Today, we're very excited to share that we are making our cloud deployment runner open-source.

We are doing this because:

1. **Security and privacy have become even more critical with AI.** As AI tools become more prevalent in development workflows, ensuring the security and privacy of your code and infrastructure is paramount.

2. **Most systems are a 'black box' and designed for vendor lock-in!** We want to take a different approach. By open-sourcing our runner, you can see exactly what's happening with your deployments.

3. **Most of the world's software uses open source.** This allows us to give back to the community that has given so much to us.

## Our Vision

When we started deployment.io, we started with a vision of a product that would combine the ease of use of Heroku with the power, control, and transparency of managing the cloud on our own.

We have a lot of features in the pipeline, and a lot of things will change. However, our users will always be able to check what we exactly do with their code and cloud.
